HOUSE DISTRICT 87 DEMOCRATS HOST ANNUAL WATERMELON WELCOME ON 8/7
HD 87 Democratic Candidates Plan to Attend
On Thursday August 7th from 6pm to 8pm there will be a meet-and-greet at Will Rogers Park for the voters in House District 87. Watermelon, refreshments and entertainment will be provided free of charge to the public. The event will feature music from, you guessed it, 1987. Voters will have a chance to meet their neighbors and the Democratic candidates in their area. In attendance will be Dana Orwig, Democratic candidate for State House of Representatives, Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth, Democratic candidate for U.S. House Steve Perry, HD 88 Representative Al McAffrey, and representatives from State Senator Andrew Rice and Attorney General Drew Edmondson.
Dana is a lifelong educator with over 25 years of classroom experience and a deacon at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Dana is committed to bettering Oklahoma’s schools and making quality healthcare accessible to Oklahomans in need. In a time of high food and gas prices, Dana wants to work to eliminate the grocery tax to give relief to struggling Oklahoma families.
Dana’s opponent is Jason Nelson, a lobbyist for DCP Midstream(a subsidiary of Conoco-Phillips) and other clients. Nelson, who served under former Governor Frank Keating, and was an anti-union fund raiser is seeking to replace Republican Representative Trebor Worthen.
Pam Paul, Democratic chair of House District 87, first organized this event to help create a stronger community in District 87. “Our precinct teams are excited about the prospects of high voter turnout in November, but more importantly, we are passionate about building relationships in our community through neighborhood gatherings. I look forward to sharing the evening with Dana and the folks of our district” said Pam.
House District 87 candidate Dana Orwig will host an April Fools’ Day fun(d)raiser at The Belle Isle Brew Pub, located on the second floor of 50 Penn Place. The fun(d)raiser is open to anyone 21 years of age or older. The event will be held on Tuesday April 1st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with musical entertainment provided by local singer-songwriter Kevin Watson.
Dana is a lifelong educator who has lived and worked in District 87 for 30 years. She and her husband Steve raised their children there and now they are the proud grandparents of two of the district’s youngest citizens.
Dana understands firsthand the changes we must make to improve education in Oklahoma. She is also committed to finding solutions to Oklahoma’s growing health care crisis—nearly 700,000 Oklahomans are without health insurance, putting them at risk and increasing health care costs for everyone.
Supporters of good government are encouraged to come meet Dana on April 1 at the Belle Isle Brew Pub. For more information, please call 604-5214.
